Strengths: The Special Collections department's holdings include material relating to the history and culture of the north-east, such as archival and non-archival material on the University of Aberdeen itself, local records, and oriental materials. Printed collections include acquisitions dating from the late 15th century. Missionary-related collections include personal papers of 19th and 20th century missionaries, and records of the 1910 World Missionary Conference held in Edinburgh. The department is also home to the Scottish Catholic Archives, Historic Archives and the NHS Grampian Archives.

Access conditions: The Special Collections department is accessible by wheelchair. Self-service microform reader-printers are available; copying is carried out by Reading Room staff (subject to the condition of material) and there is managed self-service copying as well.
