Strengths: The Wellcome Library is one of the world's leading resources for the study of medical history, its collections including archives and manuscripts, early printed books, and iconographic and oriental material. The Archives and Manuscripts section was formed by the amalgamation of the Western Manuscripts and Contemporary Medical Archives sections, and includes the Wellcome Archive, relating to the Library's founder, Sir Henry Solomon Wellcome, which reflects his personal interest in missionary activity. The Archives and Manuscripts section does not include papers of any actual missionary societies, but holds personal papers of missionaries, particularly medical missionaries, from the 18th century onwards.
