INTRODUCTION TO THE MUNDUS GALLERY

Visual resources are an important and substantial part of many missionary collections. Photographs, lantern slides, drawings and engravings are some of the varied pictorial materials created, collected and used by missionary societies and by individual missionaries.

A small selection of the thousands of images held at four UK centres: Edinburgh University Library, the Centre for the Study of Christianity in the Non-Western World, also in Edinburgh, the Angus Library, Regent's Park College, Oxford and the Library of the School of Oriental and African Studies are represented in the Mundus Gallery. These have been researched and catalogued as part of the Mundus Project. Brief caption information accompanies each image.

The images are drawn from the collections of the following missionary societies: the Baptist Missionary Society, the China Inland Mission, the Council for World Mission, the Methodist Missionary Society and from a number of individual collections.
