Administrative/Biographical history: The Missionary and Ecumenical Council of the Church Assembly was formed in 1963 to combine the work of the Overseas Council and the Council for Ecumenical Co-operation; it met for the first time in January 1964. The Council was replaced by the Board of Mission and Unity in 1972.
Immediate source of acquisition: The archive was transferred to the Church of England Record Centre with the records of the General Synod, however the date of acquisition is unknown.
CONTENT AND STRUCTURE
Scope and content/abstract: The archive comprises the Council records and those of its sub-committees including the Executive, Home and Finance Committees, the Study and Research Group and the papers of the Ecumenical Officers.
System of arrangement: The archive is divided into four parts: the Council and its committees, the Anglican Communion, the Missionary Societies and 'Other Churches and Organisations'.
