Administrative/Biographical history:

Throughout its history The Salvation Army has organised its work into administrative areas known as Territories, Commands and Regions. The earliest Territory to be formed was the UK Territory, following the formation of The Salvation Army in London in 1865. At present (2014) The Salvation Army has 62 Territories, Commands and Regions and is at work in 126 countries. Salvation Army work is directed by administrative departments of International Headquarters (based in London), which are headed by international secretaries. Each Territory, Command and Region also has its own Commander who directs work on the ground.

The Salvation Army International Heritage Centre is the repository for the official records of the UK Territory and for those areas which do not have an archive or facilities suitable for holding records.

Custodial history: Records transferred directly from Territories to Salvation Army International Heritage Centre.
