CONTEXT Name of creator(s): St Andrews University Missionary Association St Andrews University Missionary Society Administrative/Biographical history: The Missionary Society was a student-run society, affiliated to the Students Association of St Andrews University. The Missionary Society was instituted in 1824 by students from the Faculty of Divinity, to promote and support the work of foreign missions. The Missionary Association (as it had been renamed in 1896) closed in 1963. See also: Custodial history: The collection was the property of the St Andrews University Missionary Society prior to its donation to St Andrews University Library in 1966. Immediate source of acquisition: St Andrews University Missionary Society donated its Library to St Andrews University Library in 1966. CONTENT AND STRUCTURE Scope and content/abstract: The collection contains reports of Missionary and Bible Societies, accounts of missionary work in many parts of the world, and biographies of missionaries. System of arrangement: Classified according to Library of Congress subject headings. ACCESS AND USE Language: English. Conditions governing access: The collection is open to all researchers from UK higher education insitutions and all others having reasonable need to use it. Conditions governing reproduction: A limited amount of photography and/or photocopying may be allowed if the condition of the book permits. Finding aids: Records for the whole collection (prefix MSoc) can be found via the local guard book catalogue, and on SAULCAT (St Andrews University Library's on-line catalogue).
