Hollis, Papers of Rev Michael
Name of creator(s): Hollis, (Arthur) Michael
Administrative/Biographical history: Rev (Arthur) Michael Hollis was an SPG missionary in Tinnevelly, now known as Tirunevelly, Tamil Nadu, South India, before his appointment in 1942 to the Bishopric of Madras. In 1948 he left this post to become moderator of the newly formed Church of South India, a position which he held until 1954. He also undertook several academic posts including Professor of Church History at the United Theological College, Bangalore, India.
Custodial history: It is possible that Rev Lesslie Newbigin acquired these letters, as they were formerly stored with his collection, but there is no information regarding their provenance. Cataloguing of the papers was undertaken by the Special Collections Department, University of Birmingham, in February 2001, as a result of the University of Birmingham's relationship with Selly Oak Colleges endowment trust

Conditions governing access: Open This collection is held at Orchard Learning Resources Centre on the Selly Oak campus. All collections housed at the OLRC are currently made available for consultation in the Special Collections Department in the Main Library on the Edgbaston campus. Researchers are therefore required to make an appointment with the University Archivist to consult this collection and to give at least one week's notice of a visit in order for the material to be made available. Researchers are required to bring a letter of introduction with them on their first visit in order to obtain a reader's ticket.
Conditions governing reproduction: Permission to make any published use of any material from the collection must be sought in advance in writing from the University Archivist, Special Collections (email: email@example.com). Identification of copyright holders of unpublished material is often difficult. Special Collections will assist where possible with identifying copyright owners, but responsibility for ensuring copyright clearance rests with the user of the material
