CONTEXT Name of creator(s): Discovery Foundation for Christian Work Among Nurses and Associated Professions Administrative/Biographical history: The Discovery Foundation was established in 1967, using a gift of funds following the winding up the Nurses' Christian Movement. It was a registered charity, no 252505, and ceased to exist in 1992. Custodial history: Cataloguing of the papers was undertaken by the Special Collections Department, University of Birmingham, in March 2000, as a result of the University of Birmingham's relationship with Selly Oak Colleges' endowment trust. Immediate source of acquisition: The records were deposited as a gift in 1994 by the last secretary and chairperson of the Discovery Foundation. CONTENT AND STRUCTURE Scope and content/abstract: Records of the Discovery Foundation for Christian Work Among Nurses and Associated Professions comprising signed minutes of meetings of Foundation members, 1967-1992, annual reports for years 1967-1992, accounts book, 1967-1992, annual statements of accounts for years 1968-1992, correspondence and legal papers relating to the establishment and closure of the Foundation, and miscellaneous papers comprising research papers relating to medical research supported by the Foundation. System of arrangement: The collection has been arranged into six series: minutes, annual reports, cash books, statements of accounts, correspondence and legal papers, and papers relating to research supported by the Foundation. Thereunder the files are arranged in chronological order. ACCESS AND USE Language: English. Conditions governing access: Unrestricted. Conditions governing reproduction: Permission to make any published use of any material from the collection must be sought in advance in writing from the University Archivist, Special Collections (email: special-collections@bham.ac.uk). Identification of copyright holders of unpublished material is often difficult. Special Collections will assist where possible with identifying copyright owners, but responsibility for ensuring copyright clearance rests with the user of the material. Finding aids: A catalogue of this collection to file and item level is available on the University of Birmingham Information Services Online Archive Catalogue. A paper copy of this catalogue is also available for consultation at the Orchard Learning Resources Centre and in the Special Collections Department reading room.
