CONTEXT Name of creator(s): Administrative/Biographical history: Emily Ruth Spriggs (b c 1872) of Gosport was accepted as a CMS missionary in 1897 and left for service with the East Africa Mission in the same year. She served in Tanganyika, at Mamboya, Kongwa, Berega and Dodoma. Custodial history: Deposited with the CMS by Canon G. Hewitt, 1966; transferred on permanent loan to the Special Collections Department by the CMS in the 1980s. Immediate source of acquisition: CONTENT AND STRUCTURE Scope and content/abstract: This collection comprises personal papers of Emily Spriggs relating to her service as a CMS missionary in Tanganyika. It largely consists of manuscript copies and extracts of her detailed journal letters covering the early period of her mission service from 1897-1904 which are illustrated with photographs, sketches and other items. The collection also includes nearly 100 photographs from Tanganyika, including photographs of missionaries and converts. System of arrangement: This collection forms part of the Church Missionary Society Unofficial Papers. It is arranged into one series: Family Papers.
