CONTEXT Name of creator(s): Administrative/Biographical history: Lorna Alberta Bowden was accepted for missionary training by the CMS in 1921. She served in the Weithaga District, Kenya and retired in 1953. Custodial history: Presented to the CMS by Miss Lorna Bowden, Wells, Somerset, June 1973; transferred on permanent loan to the Special Collections Department by the CMS in the 1980s. Immediate source of acquisition: CONTENT AND STRUCTURE Scope and content/abstract: This collection comprises the personal papers of Miss Lorna Bowden relating to her service as a CMS missionary in the Weithaga District, Kenya. It includes her diaries covering the period 1922-1944 together with some separate diaries of trips including one to Mount Kenya in 1940; various letters to her family; and other miscellaneous papers including notes for talks she gave and a number of photographs including some of the building of Weithaga church in 1934-1935. System of arrangement: This collection forms part of the Church Missionary Society Unofficial Papers. It is arranged into two series: Family Papers and Miscellaneous Papers.
