CONTEXT Name of creator(s): Mylrea, C. Stanley G. (1876-1952) Administrative/Biographical history: Born 1876. Sec. to E.C. Millard, representative of “The Friends of Armenia” in Alexandretta, Sept. 1897; English teacher, Central Turkey College, Aintab, Dec. 1897; returned to America and entered Medical School in Philadelphia, 1898; Doctor of Medicine, 1906. Accepted by the Arabian Mission of the Reformed Church in America, 1906; served Bahrain 1907-12; served Kuwait 1912-47; OBE 1919; King George V and Queen Mary Jubilee Medal 1935; Kaisar-i-Hind Gold Medal 1943. Married, 2 July 1906, Bessie Augusta London. Died 3 January 1952. Custodial history: In the possession of Dr. Mylrea. Immediate source of acquisition: Unknown, but probably from Dorothy Van Ess and before 1978 [1960?] CONTENT AND STRUCTURE Scope and content/abstract: Two typescript versions of the memoirs of Mylrea: Before oil came to Kuwait and Kuwait before oil. The memoirs cover Mylrea's work as a pioneer medical missionary of the Arabian Mission in Bahrain and Kuwait from1907 to 1947, including comment on local affairs and the ruling families as well as descriptions of the medical work of the mission. The typescripts are edited by Dr Samuel Zwemer, founder of the Arabian Mission of the Reformed Church of America. System of arrangement: As received. ACCESS AND USE Language: English.
