CONTEXT Name of creator(s): Missionary Council of the Church Assembly Administrative/Biographical history: The Board of Mission for the Province of Canterbury was established in 1887, followed three years later by a similar Board for the Province of York. Together they formed the United Boards of Mission. In 1922 the Missionary Council of the Church Assembly was set up to develop the wrok of the Boards. CONTENT AND STRUCTURE Scope and content/abstract: The collection comprises: minutes of the missionary literature sub-committee of the Board of Missions for the province of Canterbury, 1891-1899 (one volume; MS. 2446); reports to the Missionary Council from overseas bishops in Africa, Asia and Australasia, 1929-1955 (eight volumes; MSS. 3120-3469).
