CONTEXT Name of creator(s): Anglican and Foreign Church Society Administrative/Biographical history: The Anglican and Foreign Church Society had its origins as the Anglo-Continental Society, which was founded in 1853 to promote the principles of the Church of England, and the internal reformation of national churches, and to prevent infidelity. The latter name was adopted in 1904, upon amalgamation with the Association for the Furtherance of Christianity in Egypt. Custodial history: Immediate source of acquisition: CONTENT AND STRUCTURE Scope and content/abstract: The collection comprises: the papers of members and officials of the Anglican and Foreign Church Society (including those of Christopher Wordsworth, Bishop of Lincoln, and John Wordsworth, Bishop of Salisbury (1844-1880) MSS 2908-25; papers on the Reunion with the Roman Catholic Church (1895-1904); and papers relating to the Reformed Catholic Church (1889-1904)); and correspondence and papers of the Society (including general correspondence (1891-1932); accounts (1888-1893, 1901-1932); committee minutes (1900-1915); secretarial letter books (1912-1919); transcripts of annual meetings (1910-1919 (incomplete)); and papers relating to assistance given to the Old Catholic Church on Austria (1871-1913). Annual reports comprise those for 1867-1919. System of arrangement: The collection is divided between: papers of members and officials of the Anglican and Foreign Church Society (subdivided into those of Christopher Wordsworth, Bishop of Lincoln, and John Wordsworth, Bishop of Salisbury, papers on the Reunion with the Roman Catholic Church, and papers relating to the Reformed Catholic Church; and correspondence and papers of the Society (subdivided into general correspondence, accounts, committee minutes, secretarial letter books, transcripts of annual meetings (1910-1919, and papers relating to assistance given to the Old Catholic Church on Austria).
